The 1st Annual National Slide Guitar Festival took place this summer at the Brevard Music Center, North
Carolina, in August 1997.
Attending the Fest were some of the world’s finest, including Debashish Bhattacharya and Bob Brozman. For three days and nights the sound of slide guitars wallowed from this camp, nestled in the foothills of the Pisqah National Forest.
What could be sweeter? Well, only to take home first prize for best unsigned acoustic slide, and that’s what Kraig did. The winnings included a Radio Tone National Resophonic Guitar with 'First Place' engraved on the cover plate. Kraig also performed on main stage in between two of the greatest, Debashish and Bob B.
Congrats came from people of all walks, and gave Kraig a great opportunity to meet and become friends
with some beautiful folks.
Chicago area musician Kraig Kenning recently captured first place honors in the first annual "National Slide Guitar Festival" competition. Sponsored by the National Guitar company, along with co-sponsors Acoustic Guitar Magazine, Highlander Pickups, John Pearse Strings, and Web Straps, the festival was held for three days in Brevard, North Carolina from August 22-24.
Kenning’s stellar performance on slide guitar beat out formidable competing players in the "Acoustic Division for Unsigned Artists". The judges included noted slide artist Bob Brozman, plus other musicians and instrument industry specialists. They awarded the Streamwood, Illinois resident first place in his division, along with a brand new, custom-made, one-of-a-kind National guitar, Radio Tone model. Acoustic Guitar Magazine also interviewed Kenning for an upcoming issue on the fest.
